I know, I hardly ever post 2 days in a row but this is something which I can't ignore. Please, please, please spare a bit of your time to watch this. This inhumane activity has got to come to an end.
I'm really sorry I haven't been updating guys. Believe me, as much as I want to update as often as before, I can't. Like what my teacher said, "IB2 is harder than the first year of Uni." Very reassuring indeed. Went for Lisa's the other day but I didn't bring my camera along so here are the most decent pictures taken with my BB.
Yes the cake tastes as amazing as it looks.
The rest had left when we took this pic. I know I look fugly. Blame the camera.
Also, nothing much has been happening except (you've guessed it) school. We were bored during English.
Speaking of English, I recommended by English (Literature) teacher two songs which occured to me recently that was somewhat related to Blanche from A Streetcar Named Desire, a play which we studied in class. She told me she listened to them and liked them :-)
"Baby's all dressed up with nowhere to go
That's the little story of the girl you know
Relying on the kindness of strangers
Tying cherry knots, smiling, doing party favors
Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on
Sing your song, song, now the camera's on
And you're alive again"
Then comes a whole verse in French, which relates to Blanche cause she was from Belle Reve and there's a minute section in the play where she spoke in French.
"It was beautifully depressing,
Like a street car named Desire.
They were fighting for their love that had started growing tired"
Idky I was analyzing the lyrics. I guess being a Lit student does make you more critical and analytical. On a music related note ( I realize I have a lot of posts pertaining to music), William Beckett answered 2 of the questions I asked him on his formspring, one of them being this:
He also said he's considering Middle East as one of his tour destinations but he didn't mention anything about the UAE though :/ If you don't know who he is, he's a member of the band Tha Academy Is..., which split up last year (I know, why do all good things come to an end). If you don't know who they are, they are under the same record label as Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, Cobra Starship and many more.
Okay, I think that is about it for now. 56 more days to my first paper. Bye guys!
But between the drinks and subtle things
The holes in my apologies, you know
Sup mofoz! (I honestly don’t know what has gotten into me. I blame it on the work load of the IB). As you can probably tell, my life right now revolves around school, ugh. I really hate it because I used to be able to make time to blog even though I was drowning in school work. So I went to TGIF with my friends the other day and we went shopping after that.
Unfortunately my life hasn’t been eventful as of late. Just less than 100 days till I graduate, yes! I’m so excited to get out of this shit hole, you don’t understand. I don’t like my school and this time I have every right to complain because I didn’t choose to go to EIS. I didn’t get into the school of my choices before I moved to Dubai just cause I didn’t do O levels/ (I)GCSE since I’m too smart for those. I know, I should stop being a prick and try to make the most of it but it’s just...different.
Anyway, it’s been close to 2 months since my family got a full time maid again and it still feels weird having someone cleaning my room everyday and bringing my food to me in the morning before school. I can almost say it’s on the verge of uncomfortable but I guess the good part is that there’s always someone to clean up after my mess. Heh.
The other day Rod told me that he bookmarked my blog and showed it ot me on his Macbook. I know this sounds slightly corny but I was really touched. I bookmark blogs but most of them are popular ones and only a few of the bookmarked blogs are my friends'. I've never imagined anyone bookmark-ing my blog. It's little things like this that keep me blogging :-)
On another happy note, here’s a conversation I had with my brother over lunch the other day:
Me: So how was school? Bro: It’s was okay. Me: What did you guys do? Bro: Girls.
I laughed so hard when he said that. Anyway, if you guys have been following me on Twitter, you guys would know that I’ve been sucked into the world of fanfics lately. I can’t believe I didn’t know of them any sooner. Also, I’m obsessed with Ryan Ross right (see what I did there? Alliteration) now. I think his writing is flawless and... alright, I might as well give you the definition of Ryan Ross
Sorry, I just had to. If you’re a fan of them you would get it. Back to my point, my friends thought I was crazy and gave me that look when they saw that I painted his name on my nails. (One letter on each finger except for the thumbs in case you were wondering.) But I couldn’t give two fucks about what they think. I smile every time I look at my hands -which is kinda creepy - but I’m still a teenager anyway. I know I’ll probably laugh at myself when I’m older and look back but at least I’m contented right now :-)
Just watched three back-to-back episodes of Family Guy in celebration of the end of the week. I’m gonna have a break now and continue on reading more fanfics or just sleep since I'm shagged but I’ll leave you guys with this song. Don’t judge by the movie it was from, it’s a really catchy tune that’s got a little bit of old school in it so enjoy!
The trick is getting you to think that all this was your idea
And that this was everything you've ever wanted out of here
Sorry for being such a bad blogger. I've been bombarded with so much school work even though it's the half term break.
My fan base, guys ^. Ha ha. I've decided to update this space even though I'm not done with my Math IA. I feel guilty cause sometimes I tell myself "I'm going to update my blog today" but I end up digressing instead. Funny how I can digress even when I'm doing something i enjoy i.e. blogging.
Anyway, some family friends came over the other day and I ate A LOT. I forgot to take pictures of the food I ate but it was really good. The girls and I went to Central Perk for some late night (more like midnight) coffee.
I can't believe I didn't know this place is so near my house! The whole set up is really similar to the one in Friends.
(x)
We played carom and 400 when we got back. The last time I played 400 was probably NYE... Wow. And I used to be so addicted to that game. The first round of carom was extremely long cause we were all noobs, ha ha.
On another note, my school had a netball match against Wellington and won 10-7. I think the only reason we won even though 4 of the Seniors weren't there was cause our opponents were younger. So just a few days back, we had to do a rat dissection for our Bio practical. WARNING: The following images may not be suitable especially if you just ate. Brace yourselves.

I think that was enough to make you want to barf and wish you didn't scroll down. That was how I felt when I had to dissect it since my partner didn't want to do it. It reeked of feces and blood and....it was just disgusting. I couldn't really bring myself to dissect the rat at first cause my rat looked sad. Moreover it was a fat rat so it was actually quite difficult to be dissected.
Even though the half term break started on Tuesday, the Geographers still had to go to school since we're lagging behind in the syllabus. To make up for my lack of posts....
Rod: What time did you sleep? Nikhil: Ah I'm so tired. I slept at 7 in the morning watching porn.
*Howarth starts laughing*
If that wasn't enough,
Howarth: Don't take a picture of that, I'll get fired! Me: Don't worry, I won't upload it *grins* Rod: Just wait and see, in 2 seconds it'll be on Facebook. Me: Nah, I won't upload it on Facebook
I kept to my word Rod, I didn't upload it on Facebook ;-)
To end of this messy post, Dee Kosh explains "Singlish". Just watch it. It's entertaining and slightly annoying at times but if I enjoyed it I'm sure you will too.
And for my non-Singaporean readers, neh neh means boobs and meh/ leh/ la etc are all part of Singlish.Have a great weekend and enjoy the remaining of the half term break guys!
And the world you live is so convincing
Will the audience laugh?
Will the audience wilt?
Guess who’s back? Back again? Shaleen’s back, tell a friend! (That sounded so much cooler in my head). If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, you can proceed here. I didn’t explicitly mention when I’ll be back blogging so for those of you who have been checking back during my indefinite hiatus, sorry to have kept you waiting!
Anyway, my mocks/ prelimns are over (hooray!) but unfortunately, I still have essays and reports to complete throughout the whole of this month. But fret not, I’ll update as often as I can. Well, at least more often than during my exam period. I went for some retail therapy after the exams and Hewtung, Nadhila and I went to a French restaurant for lunch over the weekend.
I was wearing heels since I thought we wouldn’t be shopping afterwards but...we did. So I bought flip flops the first thing I did at the mall cause I didn’t want to spend any second more in the 5” heels. It was so embarrassing and that would be the first and last time I’d wear flip flops at a mall. I’m one who believes that flip flops do not belong anywhere besides the beach and the market.
Me: I still can’t believe I’m wearing flip flops at the mall Hewtung: It’s okay, there’s always a first time for everything Me: *sigh* Nadhila: There’s always a first time for everything Me: She just said that....
On another note, lots of things happened since the last time I blogged; from being back stabbed by a teacher which lead to unnecessary drama blown out of proportion to getting a new phone! I am in love with my new phone, the Blackberry Bold 9900 in WHITE. Add me on BBM if you haven’t (2904BED8) and if you already have but are still pending for a request, then re-add me cause I haven’t received any from you. I’ve also got whatsapp so just holla at me!
+ I got stationeries which I needed from Singapore (Thanks Nadie + Nattasha!). And dad got me this when he came back from Singapore during his business trip:
(x)
How cute is the bottle?! I absolutely love the scent and have been using it every day since I got it. Unfortunately it doesn’t stay for too long and I couldn’t bear bringing it along with me everywhere cause I’m afraid the bottle might break or something.
So just a few days ago.........my parents got me one of the best things ever:
A functioning gramophone!!
So I decided to further research on PATD vinyls (if you have been following me on Twitter you would have noticed my burgeoning obsession of that band). Much to my dismay, there aren't any more vinyls of my favourite album from that band + it's OOP = overpriced :(
On a music related note, I'll end off this post with a song from the much loathed/ loved singer, Lana Del Rey. If you haven't heard of her, then you must be living under a rock. I love practically every song on the album, I highly encourage you guys to check it out!
I'm developing a fever and I have a match tomorrow. Should probably sleep soon. Goodnight readers! :-)
I'm exactly where you'd like me, you know Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivety
My second favourite class, my Math class. Full attendance for only once this term, ha ha. Yup, my math class is awesome cause there's only 8 people :-)
I mentioned in my previous post that I won't be updating often anymore due to my upcoming exams. They were initially supposed to start on the 15th and end on the 26th of this month but we only got to know just now (because the KHDA wanted to check how the grade 13 classes as well) that the exams were postponed to the week after. I had mixed feelings about the postponement of the exams cause that will mean that the deadlines for Extended Essay, Business IA and World Lit would collide with the exams but fortunately some of them have been postponed too. And that would also mean more time to study for the exams.
On an academically related note, the Nov 2011 IB exams were out a few days ago and 29 out of the 454 students in ACS (I) got perfect scores. That's 29 from Singapore alone. There were 26 perfect scorers from the whole of Australia and only 1 from the entire US. I think it's cause most of the students in the UK and US do the May exam. If you think those results were amazing, 78.2% of the students got 40 or more points and the average score was 41.36. Unbelievable.
I also found out recently that my favourite Chinese boy has been enlisted for the army in May, which means I might not be able to see him when I go back to Singapore in August. Which also means that I won't get to see him ever again if the world ends. Sad case.
Anyway, this is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. The little girls (when I say little I mean Grade 4 and 5 girls) are crushing on Matthieu (Grade 13) and they decided to write him a letter. They were giggling when he was walking to the school bus.
Matthieu reads the letter aloud after finding it
"Dear Mathew, wrong spelling, you're a cutie pie we girls love you so much marry us. From all of your girls fram, wrong spelling, your class, which is only Shaleen. xxxxxxxxxxx kiss kiss crazy boy. Moshi monsters?!"
Funny stuff, really.
I think I should get going soon. Didn't do anything today cause I'm shagged as hell! Till next time xx kiss kiss hahaha ;-)
If I catch it comin' back my way
I'm gonna serve it to you
And that ain't what you want to hear but that's what I'll do
Thank God the weekends are finally here! The two-day week was enough to drain me since my body clock got screwed over the Winter break. School has been alright, I guess. It was somewhat nice to see (almost) the entire grade again. Anyway, I spent New Year's Eve with Sharin, Kyle and Monsour at my place playing cards, piano, netball, eating, watching the fireworks on the roof, going crazy, running around the house and chasing each other, getting married (ha ha) and just having fun.
Stupid face, ha ha. Sometimes I think the 4 of us are such an odd combination. Sharin's the craziest, I'm the loudest (you shouldn't be surprised), Kyle's the one who talks the most and Monsour's the quietest. Nevertheless, we still manage to gel together.
Playing 400. We also played Blackjack and Poker.
Doing Math: Calculating the probability of winning if...I KID. We were just tabulating our scores for 400
Rape in progress, you wouldn't wanna know why.
And soon enough, they got married. "I now pronounce you husband and wife". Monsour browses through my book and starts reading "DNA Replication...Proteins are...."
Love this girl <3
So Sharin and Kyle claim that whenever Monsour and I take a picture we look like this
American Gothic. But I didn't know what they were talking about at that time, so I just did a stupid face
And then when I found out how they actually wanted me to look like, I decided to edit the picture and personified it
I have such amazing editing skills, no? Ha ha, I just drew it in Paint. I'm still clueless about Photoshop. So here is a decent picture of us to make up for the not so appealing ones
Sleepover!
I didn't snap any pictures of the fireworks cause my bro was recording it and I'll upload it one fine day after the exams if time permits. While we were playing cards my iPod which was on shuffle started playing "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye,
Everyone suddenly bursts into smiles Kyle: Ohmygod, we're all in the same TOK class! Sharin: What?! We're all in the same class? None of us are in the same class. Me: NO! We're not! The two of you (points to Kyle and Sharin) are in the same class. Monsour and I are in the same class. Kyle: OH! We all start laughing.
Kyle was confused because all of our TOK teachers showed us the music video to that song during TOK. It was funny how one person thought we were all in the same class while the other one thought none of us were in the same class. Oh blondes. Kidding ;-)
During Geography, Rod pointed out that my nails were painted black and yellow when they were in fact black and gold. I actually painted my nails black and gold cause at that time the song "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro was looping in my head.
Embedding of the music video was disabled so here's the lyrics video instead. This song was such a hit back in '08! (Besides Flo-rida's "Low")
It's 1:15AM in Dubai as I type this so I think I should be turning in soon. Won't be updating often over the next few days cause my exams are just around the corner. Good night and have a great weekend guys!
I am who I am and I can't be no one else
